Instagram Posts

An Instagram post is the collective term for when you publish anything on your Instagram feed. A post can be a single image, a video or an image carousel.

Instagram is all about providing value to your followers, especially if you want more engagement. In this case, your goal should be to post photos and videos that evoke some kind of emotion – happiness, humour, motivation, education, nostalgia, love or anything else. High-quality photos with a lot of colours tend to get the most action on Instagram.

Hot Tip: The most important thing to keep in mind is that Instagram is a visual platform, therefor your photos need to be visually appealing and good quality.

Using Filters to Enhance the Quality of Your Photos

Instagram provides you with a bunch of filters you can apply to your photos to automatically enhance the look and style. People want photos and videos that are colourful, but relatively natural looking...so be sure to 100% use a filter to up the contrast, sharpness and professional looks of your photos.

HOT TIP: Although filter effects may be tempting, try to limit your use of them to keep the colour and contrast normal in most of your photos.

As mentioned previously, Instagram is a marketing channel and the key difference of Instagram to other marketing platforms is that its VISUAL.

Your content has to look good, if not amazing, as a grid of images. If visual content isn’t for you than you’re on the wrong platform. People follow Instagram accounts because they love the aesthetic of that account.

HOT TIP: You won't have this appeal if you’re constantly changing up your filters, swapping between colour themes, or playing around with different styles day in, day out. Design a theme and stick to it for a month or two at least.

Add Multiple Images to a Post

To add multiple photos or videos to a regular Instagram post, do the following:

  1. Tap the + button to create a new post.
  2. Tap the Select Multiple button. (This may appear as text or as an icon).
  3. Scroll through your camera roll and tap up to 10 photos or videos to add to your post. They will appear in your post in the order in which they were selected.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. At this point, if you’re not happy with the order the images appear, you can tap and hold the image you want to move and drag it to a new spot in the lineup. If you want to remove an image drag it to the top of the screen where a trash can icon will appear.
  6. If apply an Instagram filter, the filter will be applied to all images. If you want to use different filters for each image, you’ll have to tap them, and make a new selection.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. The rest of the process is identical to sharing a single image or video: fill in your caption, and tap Share

The final product is a carousel or slideshow of images that allows you to share a series of photos that tell a story. When posted, the first photo you selected will appear in your followers’ feeds. If they open the image, they can then swipe through the multiple images to see everything you’ve posted.

Using this method is great if you want to share a lot of detail in each image. It’s also a great way to demonstrate process. For example, we use multiple images when we post about new courses or content. The first post is an image and the second are a video screen-scroll showing our followers how the course looks.

When you post this you'll notice in the top right hand corner a small white box - this indicates multiple images in one post - like the below example.
